This is the history of the old Happy Hearts/Ashcraft Organization from its beginnings until 2018, when Happy Hearts moved from Kingsville back to Ashtabula and took on a new identity under a new organization umbrella. I wrote a history of the original Happy Hearts/Ashcraft because my brother Kim received an education and a new idea of his life possibilities there, as did many other developmentally disabled students. Happy Hearts and Ashcraft were and still are important parts of Ashtabula and Ashtabula County History. And it is an important story to me, because it changed my brother’s history from minimal life prospects to productive and even happy. Writing the history brought new hope to my life as well.
